Brian Edwards,Dr

Brian Edwards has been one of New Zealand’s most respected broadcasters for more than thirty years. Today Brian is involved in media training with some of New Zealand's best known personalities. He is also a very fine MC and speaker.

Brian came to New Zealand in 1964 to lecture in German at the University of Canterbury. He resigned after "the three most miserable years of my life", opting instead for a career in television.

His abrasive interviewing style on the current affairs programme "Gallery" made him a household name virtually overnight and polarised the viewing audience. He was either loved or loathed. He later devised Fair Go, which he alternately hosted and produced for eight years.

He has an equal wealth of experience in radio, culminating in the high-rating Top of the Morning which he presented from 1994 to 1999.

He has been a columnist for the Dominion Sunday Times, Metro, and the NZ Listener, and is the author of several books including The Public Eye, Intemperate Outbursts, Brian’s Week, How to Survive and Win with the Media (with Judy Callingham), Helen – Portrait of a Prime Minister and in September 2008 his memoir Daddy Was a German Spy and other scandals' which covers the first 25 years of his life in Northern Ireland.

Dr Edwards holds an honours B.A. from the Queen’s University of Belfast and a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh. He lectured at Canterbury University and was Head of Television for the Bachelor of Communication Studies degree at the Auckland University of Technology.

His most recent foray into television was "Edwards at Large" in which Brian did what he does so well, interviewing celebrities.

He has twice won the Media Peace Prize for his work on radio and as a columnist. He was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in 1999 for services to Broadcasting and Journalism.

In 2006 Brian returned to his broadcast roots and presented "Top o' the Morning" each Saturday morning on Radio Live before the pressure of his busy life got the better of him.

Always in demand as a media trainer and speaker Brian is also one of New Zealand's best MC's bringing dignity and professionalism to any event.
